Once you get to Tier 5 i think you are given the option to manage your own army. At tier 6, i believe you are asked to join the faction as a lord. At that point, the game reverts into normal Bannerlord, so make sure to choose the "thanks but no thanks, i'll keep working for you as a soldier" option if you want to continue playing as a soldier.

This mod patches a crash caused by the wandering hero stuff introduced by Serve as Soldier. This patch isn't very well tested and may cause unexpected behavior, but should really only prevent those wandering heroes from getting first aid experience, so it's relatively minor.

Serve as Soldier allows you to join up with a individual Lord’s army and fight and use some passive exp gain (jobs based on what rank/troop tier you are).
